The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) actively conducts comprehensive research and analysis to gain profound insights into the far-reaching impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for both economies and societies.
In this particular research paper, which is the inaugural installment of a new series, the OECD extensively examines various trends and developments related to AI. The study covers a broad spectrum of AI-related subjects and addresses crucial aspects such as governance, policy implications across domains like labor markets, education, and healthcare, ethical considerations in AI design and implementation, as well as emerging areas such as generative AI. The collection encompasses not only policy papers but also working papers, thereby providing a comprehensive overview.
Generative AI, which has gained considerable attention, holds immense potential to revolutionize multiple sectors including education, entertainment, healthcare, and scientific research by enabling the creation of new content in response to prompts. Its transformative capabilities present both opportunities and challenges that warrant careful consideration and analysis by policymakers and stakeholders alike.
My opinion : The initiative to look at AI from a regulation perspective is more than needed. This first installment sounds well balanced, neither overly optimistic nor apocalyptic. Still, at some point having an opinion and making decisions will be needed.
